The Scope 3 Maturity Benchmark

SCOPE 3 – WHAT WE DO

Kshariltd, in collaboration with the Scope 3 Peer Group, has developed the Scope 3 Maturity Benchmark as a valuable resource. This tool enables companies to assess their maturity level in Scope 3 emissions management by comparing themselves to a framework co-created with industry peers. Through this collaborative effort, participating organizations gain insights into actionable steps for enhancement. Over 150 companies, collectively generating revenues exceeding $2.5 trillion, have already utilized this benchmarking tool to drive progress in their sustainability initiatives.

To ensure efficient management of demand, we are focusing on organizations with over 1,000 employees for this cohort. If your organization falls below this threshold, you can still access the findings from the first edition. However, personalized results cannot be provided at this time.

If your organization has 1,000 or more Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees, we invite you to participate in completing the benchmark. It will take approximately 30-45 minutes of your time. The registration for this wave will close on April 30, 2024.

PROUDLY COLLABORATING TO MEET NET ZERO GOALS FASTER

WHAT ARE TODAY’S SCOPE 3 CHALLENGES?

Numerous organizations have a vision of their desired destination regarding Scope 3 emissions and understand the reasons driving their sustainability goals. Indeed, insights gathered from The Maturity Benchmark highlight that significant progress has been observed in areas such as “Target Setting” and “Communications.” However, where many struggle is in determining the “how” – the approach lacks uniformity and simplicity, posing a challenge.

Subtle structural changes are underway, aimed at integrating more sustainable practices throughout the value chain.

For instance, organizations will need to incorporate emissions as a factor in both cost and value assessments, and embed this consideration into their sourcing strategies, processes, and performance metrics.

Enterprises cannot achieve significant advancements in Scope 3 emissions reduction in isolation; they depend on their supply chain partners to take essential actions. This underscores the critical role of Procurement in driving proactive change. Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) aiming to lead in this arena require more than just access to the right talent, technology, and expertise; they must also focus on key areas of strategic collaboration and sustainability.

Organizations will rely on data not only to monitor progress but also crucially to advocate for change that secures the funding and resources necessary to implement it. However, they acknowledge that their data may not be perfect initially.

Therefore, having a framework and realistic building blocks in place is paramount.
